Vasco Da Gama is 30 Kms from Panaji and situated on the narrow western tip of the Mormugao peninsula, overlooking the mouth of the Zuari River. The Portuguese acquired it in 1543. Vasco Da Gama was formerly among the busiest ports on Indias west coast and remains a key shipping center. The port town of Vasco Da Gama, popularly known as Vasco and this is Goas most cosmopolitan city. The Mormugao Harbor, one of Indias few natural harbors is 4kms from Vasco at one end. Dabolim, only airport in Goa is also 4kms from Vasco, at the other end.
Vasco Da Gama discovers new sea route to India and many sailors from Europe set sail to discover a new sea route to India. In 1492, Columbus, an Italian sailor, set out from Spain to reach India and discovered America. However Vasco Da Gama, a Portuguese sailor, succeeded in the effort. |
